Dr Ramnath Misra is Professor and Head of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow , India. His department has trained 63 DM students in Rheumatology and Clinical immunology and is regarded as one of the best centres of the country for training and research. His research contributions is in the area of Reactive arthritis and Undifferentiated spondyloarthropathy . Through a series of investigation ,he showed that synovial fluid of patients with ReA has expanded T cells recognising outer membrane protein A of salmonella. And OmpA stimulates SFMC to produce excess IL-17 and IL-6. Further , IL-17 producing innate cells such NK and gammadelta cells are expanded. He and his colleagues have shown the existence of IL-6 hyperinflammatory loop in patients and experimental mice in salmonella induced ReA.
