    Rheumatologist and clinical pharmacologist/St Vincent’s Clinic

  • Dr Handel is a rheumatologist and clinical pharmacologist who has worked in academia, industry and private practice. Until mid 2018 he was Janssen Asia Pacific immunology director liaising across 14 countries for research and education, having held previous roles as medical director for Janssen Australia/NZ and Director of the GSK Medicines Research Unit responsible for phase 1 to proof-of -concept studies of new drugs.

    Prior to joining industry in 2001, he was an academic at University of New Wales, clinical rheumatologist at St Vincent’s Hospital and had been research fellow at Harvard School of Public Health and Garvan Institute, publishing on transcriptional control of inflammation.

    He continues consulting and rheumatology practice at St Vincent’s Clinic, Sydney.
